Chambers of commerce worldwide have long championed the relationship between peace and business. Business deals are sealed with a handshake, and lasting business relationships are created when handshakes are made in good faith between partners desiring mutual benefits for one another. ICC

Background

A Collaboration in Support of Ethical Business.

The City of Oslo and the Foundation are working together with the goal of recognizing outstanding achievements in business ethics through the Oslo Business for Peace Award. Our effort has been strengthened by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), which will help us search the world for inspirational Businessworthy behavior.

The aim of the global nomination process is to accelerate the development of ethical business practices through increasing awareness of the strengths of the ethical business case. The vision is to inspire and encourage business people to foster peace and stability to the benefit of humanity, through their business activities. The relationship between business and peace is interdependent and self-reinforcing, but is often overlooked by both politicians and business people – ethical and responsible business practices is the important element in this relationship.

There are many negative examples that demonstrate why we need a strengthening of business ethics. It is, however, our goal to bring attention to the many who are showing the way, through enlightened approaches to doing business that are beneficial to both their companies and the societies in which they are active.
