The Norwegian Solists´Choir
Grete Pedersen, the conductor of the Norwegian Soloists´ Choir, studied with Terje Kvam and Eric Ericson, and has her diploma in conducting from theNorwegian State Academy of Music, where she is currently an associate professor in choral conducting. She is internationally recognised for herperformances of baroque, classical and contemporary music.
Her national and international concert activity and recordings for radio, television and dischave given her a reputation as one of the foremost Nordic conductors. As anorchestral conductor she has collaborated with the Norwegian ChamberOrchestra, the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, Baroque Fever and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. She has also conducted the Netherlands Radio Choir, ProCoro Canada, the World Youth Choir, the Swedish Radio Choir and the Netherlands Chamber Choir. In 1984 she founded Oslo Chamber Choir, which she conducted until 2004, and in the same year she and the choir received theNorwegian Choir Association´s Choral Prize.
The Norwegian Soloist´s Choir was established in 1950 by the NorwegianSoloists´ Society with the aim of becoming an elite ensemble for performingchoral music to the highest possible standard. The choir´s first conductor was Knut Nystedt, who led the ensemble for forty years. In 1990 GretePedersen took over as conductor, and she currently holds the position ofartistic director. The choir has given over two hundred performances, including seventy works by Norwegian composers. The 26 members of the Norwegian Soloists Choir are professionally trained, hand-picked singersall of whom are potential soloists in their respective genres. The choir has toured in Canada, Japan and Spain, and appeared at numerous festivals in Norway and abroad. It has collaborated with such illustrious soloists as Leif Ove Andsnes, Randi Stene, Øystein Birkeland, Bjarte Hjelmeland and Stian Carstensen and collaborates frequently with the Norwegian orchestras and Europa Galante.
