Paper on “Rebuilding the Trust Proposition between Business and Society”.
The Business for Peace Foundation believes that what is required is a stronger focus on the trust-proposition between business and society, and that companies must examine their activities with this ethical element in the foreground. Scattershot CSR- activities that seek to show good intent, apart from a company’s other activities, are not enough.
As will be shown, what may be required is a reorientation of the performance, processes and purpose of a business, to accord with universally recognized principles of ethical and responsible conduct.

The 2010 Business for Peace Honourees have been announced
This year’s Honourees reflect the rich variety found in different approaches to conducting ethical business. The Honourees come from nearly every continent, and have each found strength for their businesses through a sound awareness of business ethics, and through being conscious of the role their businesses play in the societies in which they are active.
“ICC founders were committed to international cooperation, calling themselves ‘the merchants of peace’. Today we still believe in the vast potential of the private sector to contribute to world peace and are honoured and dedicated to support the advancement of the Business for Peace Award, to become the highest form of recognition that can be bestowed upon a person in business,” said Rona Yircali, Chairman of the ICC World Chambers Federation.
“The aim of these awards is to inspire business people worldwide to recognise the role of responsible commercial ethics in strengthening the business case, through a marriage of performance with higher purpose which leads to businessworthy behaviour,” says Per Leif Saxegaard, chair of the Business for Peace Foundation.

ICC becomes a Supporting Partner of the Foundation
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has entered into a collaboration with the Business for Peace Foundation. Chambers of Commerce worldwide have always promoted the benefit of peace through trade. In today’s complex world, strong and lasting business relationships are more important than ever, and such relationships are best established through mutually rewarding ethical business practices.
This year, ICC and local chambers of commerce will be assisting in the global nomination process through searching for outstanding business people who have been able to achieve material business success while acting in an ethically responsible manner. The aim of the global nomination process is to accelerate the development of ethical business practices through increasing awareness of the strengths of the ethical business case. The vision is to inspire and encourage business people to foster peace and stability to the benefit of humanity.
As a Supporting Partner, ICC will significantly widen the impact of the foundation’s initiative, ensuring a credible global reach which is invaluable. Local ICC chapters will apply their unique knowledge of businesses in their areas, as they consider nominees against the criteria for the Oslo Business for Peace Award.
